Telangana to be the first state in India to have such a system, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao says

Telangana Agriculture, Marketing and Cooperation Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has directed officials to complete the process of calling for tenders within a week for an artificial intelligence (AI)-based digital market yard system. The state would be the first in the country to have such a system, the Minister said.

He also asked officials to call for tenders within a week for the Koheda Integrated Fruit Market, expressing displeasure that the tender process for the project had not started so far.

The digital system is meant to ensure that farmers get a fair price for their produce and that trading in market yards is transparent, leaving no room for irregularities.

Reviewing the functioning of the Marketing Department with senior officials at the Secretariat here on Monday, along with IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, he said every stage, from the moment a farmer enters the yard until he leaves with his payment, would be brought under one digital platform. Officials were asked to coordinate with the IT Department on the tenders.

Under the system, each farmer would be registered on arrival and each lot given a unique ID. Traders would view lot details and quality test results online and place their bids. The farmer would confirm the final price through an OTP sent via the commission agent, after which the produce would be weighed, the sale bill generated and payment recorded. E-receipts and e-permits would be issued at the exit gate.

The Minister asked officials to develop a Management Information System (MIS) to track arrivals, price trends, bids and the activities of traders and commission agents.
